For members
Some channels on your server are linked by YATB. Here is what that means for you.
How it works
- Write in your language in a linked channel. YATB posts a translation in the other linked channels, under your name and avatar.
- Replies, edits and deletes are mirrored. Threads are mirrored too.
- Formatting, emojis, mentions and links are kept. Real code is left untranslated.
- The translation appears in the other channels - people who cannot see your channel may still read it there.
The tag after the name
Each translation shows which service made it:
[AI] | AI provider (for example Mistral or Google Gemini) - usually the best quality |
[Google] | Google Translate |
[Azure] | Azure Translator (Microsoft) |
[Libre] | LibreTranslate - runs on our own server |
[Raw] | Not translated - no service was available at that moment |
Your data
- YATB does not store message texts. It only remembers which message belongs to which translation, for 7 days, so that edits and deletes can be mirrored.
- To translate, your message is sent to the translation services chosen by the admins of your server (see privacy).
- AI providers also receive up to 4 previous messages from the same conversation as context, so that short replies are translated correctly.
Your choice: /yatb-user privacy
- Standard - best quality. Your messages may be sent to the services the admins added.
- Local only - your messages are only translated by LibreTranslate on our own server and never sent to AI providers, Google or Azure - not even as context for other people's translations. Quality is lower.
The setting is only visible to you and applies on every server with YATB. /yatb-user help shows a short summary in Discord.
Questions
The translation is wrong. What can I do?
Edit your message - the translation is updated as well. If a term is always translated wrongly, tell the admins of your server.
Can I switch translation off completely?
Messages in linked channels are always translated, so that everyone can follow the conversation. With Local only they stay on our own server. Unlinked channels are never touched.
Does YATB read my direct messages or other channels?
No. YATB only processes messages in channels that the admins linked to a bridge.
